Wellbutrin works on dopamine, which helps with motivation and helping you become more alert and active. It does nothing for anxiety. I would combine an SSRI with it like Zoloft, Celexa, or Effexor. I have tried that before and it worked great, plus the Wellbutrin helped with not gaining weight that you will usually have if you take an SSRI alone. Most SSRI’s have few side effects.

I’m pretty sure Wellbutrin is a partial Anxiety med… I’m currently on a "cocktail" of Zoloft and Adderall. I’ve been on various anti-depression, and ADD meds 14 years now. Zoloft gives me the best results with limited side effects - however, (and this may be a good thing) I have NO sex drive… I occasionally get blind spots in my vision.
I think that anti-depression meds work differently with different people. Wellbutrin, when I was on it, made me nuttier than squirrel turds. It’s important to work with your Psychiatrist to help clear things like this up. If you don’t think he/she is doing a good job, find one recommended to you by someone you trust, like your family doctor…
    Good Luck!

They all react differently because each person has their own molecular make up whithin the brain. Anti depressants are for anxiety that arises from depression. Therefore it helps a depression/ anxiety—–ASSUMING THAT ONE HAS STEMMED FROM THE OTHER–. remember that antidepressants are not actual anxiety medications such as Valium/Xanax.

I’ve taken antidepressants/various types for 10 years and I’m finally on something that helps with depression. But guess what?
I still have chronic anxiety which is why I FINALLY broke down and realized that I am the type of guy who has to take something like valium. IT HELPS.

    Why suffer?

Wellbutrin didn’t do anything for my anxiety either. It just revved me up so much that I couldn’t even sleep for days.

Everyone is different though, so what may work for one person, may not work for you.

I suffer from depression and anxiety both and take a "cocktail" of Pristiq (the new effexor basically) and Klonopin (mild sedative). Sounds like you could benefit from adding something like xanax or klonopin to your wellbutrin. But if wellbutrin isn’t doing anything, you might try something else for what you’re taking it for.

    Good luck!

Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc.

Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI - Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level.
But there are natural ways to do it without medication. There’s this strange herb called "St John’s Wort" - it is said to be more effective than Prozac. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John’s Wort works like prozac. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc.

The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced… you have that "learned behavior" in your mind. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior - Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction… There are several other techniques to help cope them!
Ok, to use Distraction: Firstly, try to….

An older medication that is rarely prescribed by GPs (but often prescribed by psychiatrists) now is Prothiadin or Dothep. It is effective for both anxiety and depression.

The only side effect I’ve ever had from it was tiredness and dry mouth for the first year. Unlike any of the SSRIs I tried this did not impair sexual functioning or drive.

This non-exploitive documentary will have the goal of improving the participants’ lives through sessions with a licensed therapist who specializes in obsessive-compulsive behavior.
