what is the best antidepressant to take after quiting heroin? Withdrawls are already finished.?
I have a week more for Subutex. I feel fine. Doctor has prescribed Effexor as anti depressants. But I heard Welbutrin work better with addiction. I just want to prepare myself so I won’t fall back where I was.
Congratulations on quitting! That’s really, really awesome! Keep up the great work
I don’t really know about heroin addictions but I, too have heard that Wellbutrin is good w/ addictions.
Good luck!

You should ask your doctor. If anyone would know, it would be them.

congratulations on quitting heroin! that is a major accomplishment. as for which anti-depressent is best….well, it’s kinda subjective. everyone’s chemical makeup is slightly different,so the same anti-depressent will react differently with their body. i tried 3 anti-depressents before i found one that worked. next time you go into your doctor’s office, ask them about Welbutrin, and the difference between that and Effexor. ultimately, i would go with the one your doctor reccomends (if they have experience in treating post-addiction patients) and try it for awhile. if you feel it is not working, by all means, switch to another brand. good luck, and congratulations once again!

There are different types of antidepressant like Tricyclic antidepressant, MAO inhibitor, Serotonin re uptake inhibitor etc. To select a suitable antidepressant for you; need to consult a Psychiatrist.
