Are there any side effects to depression pills?

What kind of depression pills are there?

How do they work?

If someone with light depression takes ‘heavy’ depression pills, what will happen?

Just some information on depression pills would be appreciated.

Thank you.

There are side effects to many if not all prescribed medications. But many people benefit far more from taking antidepressants with minimal side effects than from not taking them as prescribed or not taking them at all. Neuroscience and physiological psychology are still studying the method of action of these types of medicine. SSRIs are Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors. That means that seratonin, a naturally occuring molecule or neurotransmitter in our central nervous system, seems to make people feel better when in stays in the gaps between two nerve cells (neurons) a little longer. Lots of medications have been developed and marketed that have a positive effect for many who suffer with depression, anxiety and other mood disorders. I don’t know what you mean by heavy or light depression. Working closely with a good psychiatrist and psychotherapist is important to help you find the right medication and treatment for you. Research shows that the combination of taking antidepressants and using "talk" therapy with a mental health provider is more effective than just using medication. Moderate exercise daily while taking antidepressants also appears to be of benefit. Exposure to longer periods of natural light helps those who have Seasonal Affect Disorder (SAD). And importantly, it is shown that having friends and family who are supportive and understanding is very good for mental health. Don’t be afraid of the side effects if they are minor and the benefits of taking the medication outweigh those side effects. Your ability to function and care for yourself is of utmost importance. And don’t be afraid to ask for a second opinion or a review of medications to see if a different treatment plan will work better for you. YOU ARE WORTH IT!

The best anti depression that I have heard that works good for light depression is zoloft.

Many can make you feel more depressed, give you suicidal thoughts.

There’s celexa, Lithium (very dangerous drug), cymbalta (i think).

You can google or bing your questions too. I really can’t think of too much right now.

Professional experience. Also see NAMI, National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, and the National Institute for Mental Health. MedScape also has patient handouts that describe the various side effects and contraindications for prescription medicines.

there are too many to count. i’m on prozac right now and i haven’t had any side effects. i’ve also taken trazodone which my doctor stopped to put me on lithium.

anti depressants work in many ways but the main one is it helps to keep serotonin (neurotransmitter) levels in the synapse (gap between brain cells).
