what happens if you take an over-doses of depression pills?

do u start to feel better, even if just temporarily, does it make it worse?

I was a dumb teenager and actually ODed on tons of paxil, zoloft, and various other pills (all at once, not multiple times). What happened to me is I lost all control of my bowels and my stomach functions. I threw up and had diarhea for about 24 hours. Then I went to sleep. When I woke up, I was in excrusiating pain because of all the stomach muscles I used. I also had no voice for 2 weeks after and my body actually ached for about 5 weeks.

Don’t do it, it’s stupid.

Make things worse, you might die. OR you may go blind or anything, you never know what is in pills. You may end up in a state of paralysis and still alive.

You would not feel better (even temporarily). SSRIs (the most popular contemporary form of anti depressant) take time to build in the blood stream. Taking more than prescribed won’t make this occur any faster. Mood changes from ADs are gradual.

it wont do anything, it’ll probably make you very ill. Stopping your perscription is as worse too, if you thought you were depressed, having blinding headaches and throwing up makes you feel even worse.

It depends on the type of antidepressant, but an overdose of medication certainly isn’t healthy, won’t improve your depression and can make you very sick. Even SSRIs, if taken in large amounts, can cause serotonin syndrome, a potentially fatal condition.

If you’re feeling as if your medication is not helping you, you need to discuss this with your doctor. You may need a dosage adjustment or medication change. Do not attempt to self-medicate.

I overdosed purposely on my anti-depressnts - Cymbalta mixed with alcohol. I drifted in and out of consciousness for two days, my pupils were enlarged, my heart was racing, light headed, my legs were really shakey and found it difficult to stand up and was in bed for two days. My mood wasn’t any better either.
