How can i get help for Bipolar depression type two without my parents knowing?
i am 14. I have always thought i was a little depressed. for like a year now, i’ve lost interest in things i used to love and i feel like no one knows what i’m going through. i feel alone and helpless. i am always upset, and even now i feel like i am going to cry. i have tried to cut mysef before unsucessfully and i want to die. i took a quiz that said i have bipolar depression type two. i’ve only heard about that a few times before, and i don’t know much about it. only, that u should be on meds and get help. but, i’m not very good at talking to my parents and i feel like if i tell them what i’ve been going through that they wouldn’t understand. my apetite is messed up to. i binge eat horribly. i will go like a week, starving myself and then totally pig out. for no reason. i don’t sleep either. i can’t, i’m so anxious, and i worry about everything. the thing that confuses me though, is that it’s not like my parent died or i had some crises, i have no reason to be depressed so why am i?
You shouldn’t diagnosing yourself, don’t say you have something until you visit a doctor that confirms you have it.
I read a book about Bipolar Disorder and it doesnt sound like that’s what you have. Sounds more like anxiety.

is it sort of anxiety? are you anxious about something?
think about why you feel depressed., if you can’t find out why
go see a doctor, and get medical care,
Don’t forget to talk with your parents because.. though
they don’t understand you, they’re there for help.
and don’t starve, ok?
hope i helped,

Fourteen is a difficult age to be. Not really a child or an adult. First and foremost-you are wise to reach out for help. Cutting yourself and wanting to die are not normal teenage thoughts or actions. You are NOT crazy either. Can you tell me why you don’t want to talk to your parents? Do you think they wouldn’t understand or care?
Bipolar is very difficult to actually diagnose. Most times Doctors say one is bipolar because of family history. Do suspect one of your parents to be bipolar? It is possible for you to be depressed and not bipolar. Either way both situations can be helped by a professional.
Have you considered it possible that your parents sense something is wrong but are too afraid to ask? The simple way to tell them how you feel is to print a copy of your post and "accidently" leave it out for them to find. Depression is an illness. You and your parents should treat it as such. And I assure you that you are NOT crazy.!

I understand how you feel. I am an adult who suffers from bipolar 2 as well. I have been in the past suicidal, had racing thoughts, terrible anxiety, and feeling so alone and unlovable.
Because I recognize the symptoms that you have, I believe that you might want to call your local mental health agency. The great thing is that what we have is treatable. You don’t have to live in constant fear and worry. I have been hospitalized several times over the last 10 years and now I am on medication that works. It is not something that you can control - it is hereditary. Because you are 14, it may be difficult to have treatment without your parents consent. Bipolar is so unpredictable and so are our moods. It sounds like you also have had a lot of trauma and abuse. Please get help. Thank you so much for sharing how you feel. Take care.

Well I truly feel for you, but I do not think you should self diagnose. I am not sure why you wouldn’t be able to go to your parents about this. Please find a teacher, a trusted adult or relative to talk to. You really need a thorough exam to rule out any physical causes. If no physical causes are found then your doctor will probably refer you to a mental health professional or maybe even diagnose it him/herself. Bipolar disorder used to be called manic depression. As the name indicates someone goes through extreme episodes called mania where ones moods are highly elevated, then come crashing down hard into a deep depression. It can be brought under control with medication. Mental illness such as bipolar disorder is nothing to be ashamed of. This is beyond your control and you did nothing to cause it. If you had a heart condition you would have it treated to improve the quality of your life, well the same goes for bipolar disorder or any other mental problem . Please don’t wait, you need treatment now. I urge you to get it ASAP. Do not suffer any longer. Good luck and god bless you.

Ok dear. 1 thing. Can you get to a doctor for another reason? Tell them it’s headaches or stomach aches? The Family doctor will have no problem treating your depression. It’s "Polar" Depression most likely though. Not BiPolar depression. Hey, it could be you are low on iron actually. But just tell him or her your real symptoms, ok? You will most likely feel better the very next day. Follow directions on your medication carefully, ok? You will get better and be ok. Btw, your brain is just another organ. If your thryoid was bad or your arm was broken, there would be no stigma about it. You are at a stressful age and school is very stressful too. Be assured it will get better. Only a few more months of school. Don’t be so hard on yourself. You don’t have to be perfect.

well first of all….it is highly recommended that people with bipolar disorder should take medication. i’ve never heard of bipolar dispression type two though. and from what you said…you do not have bipolar disorder.
online quizes make everyone think they have something.
bipolar disorder is about extreme highs and extreme lows.
1. you say you only have depression problems
2. you cannot be bipolar if you do not experience
the highs of bipolar disorder.
3. i still don’t get how a quiz said you have bipolar depression type two.
i have bipolar disorder type 2 because well, i’m not exactly a severe manic (type 1) and not unipolar…i guess.
so no, a quiz told you wrong. you are just going through depression, not bipolar disorder. just talk to your parents…

You only ever have one set of parents, and no matter what you think of them, they only want to do what is best for you.
Confide in them, tell them your fears and concerns, you may well be surprised at how understanding they can be.
If you shut them out, then how can anyone help you ??
Asking these questions on an impersonal site like this will get you many wrong answers and poor advice.

I went through the same thing at 17. I’m manic depressive, but I am oftimes so "out of it" that no one really knows. It’s when I’m alone that messes me up.
I think it is important to tell your parents - eventually. What I did was asked my Mother for my insurance information so I could go to the doctor for "girl stuff". This excuse probably won’t work for you, but once you have your insurance information, you’re fine. There are a million websites out there to help you find a doctor that will accept your insurance. Mine made a special exception in how he does his payment plans because I had no income to speak of. Make sure you talk about this with your doctor, s/he will make sure all mail is sent to you through him/her instead of to your parents.
I think it will benefit you to tell your parents, but that can wait until the hard part is over - you might be surprised at how understanding they can be, and you might have to face the fact that they’ll probably be a little hurt that you didn’t come to them first. You don’t have to tell anyone you’re in therapy, but it really does help to have someone you can trust who you aren’t paying.
Good luck, man. I know from experience that it takes a lot of courage to face that you might be sick. Hang in there and remember that you’re not as alone as you may feel.

You don’t have bipolar disorder. It sound more like depression which is curable, unlike bipolar disorder. Depression is a chemical unbalance in your body that can be corrected and eventually you can be taken off the medication. With bipolar disorder the people are usually on the medication to manage (not cure) the disorder for the rest of their lives. You need to talk to someone, whether it be a teacher, relative, family friend or whomever, and let them know what’s going on with you and have them tell your parents if you’re not comfortable doing so.
