I have severe depression.. How do I tell my parents?

I took over 10 quizzes online. And I didn’t fake or anything, and I’m sure I have mental depression. I have every single one of the symptoms. I want to get help, I seriously want to..! BAD! But the problem is, I don’t know how to tell my parents.
They probably won’t take me seriously, because ONLY around them, I act happy and all. But I have mental depression.. I want medication, I need it..
I just want to be happy… :’(

I think the easiest way for now is for you the find the best approach you can use to convey about your depression to your parents. The biggest obstacle here is yourself since it seems that you don’t have the courage to tell your problem.I bet that every parent would be understanding regarding this kind of problem and I’m sure that your parents would do the same.

However,if you’re not that comfortable bout these stuffs, you could always seek help from a counselor or a best friend to seek the best approach to confront your parents. What I’m trying to say is for now, just be comfortable and let that problem out from your chest. It is worth a try, good luck!!Hope I helped.

P/s:Do tell your parents what is the main cause of your problem a t the first place and how your parents could associate themselves to solve your problem. You’ll do just fine.

You could try talking to the school nurse and/or high school counselor and see if they can help you broach the subject to your parents.

Talk to the nurse or counselor at your school. They can talk to your parents about getting you evaluated. Best of luck to you.

"Mom, Dad, I have severe depression."

Seriously, don’t complicate a simple act with all of your emotions. Just tell them.

Medication will not help you. It will only create a diversion for your problems. Diversions are good if they are reality based. They can help you deal with your depression and put your mental energy into its proper context. Otherwise, drugs will turn you into a something you don’t need to be.

I say find an interest and put your energies into it. This interest may become a profession or a hobby, depending on how you take it on. But use it to channel your energy and that way you will create valuable interactions in your own brain that medication cannot do. Psycho-tropic medication will only degrade the quality of your brain and life.

Don’t act happy when you are with your parents.
Let your depression show through. If you feel like crying, cry.
Let them see the real you. Tell them your depressing thoughts.
Hopefully they will be concerned and want you to talk to a professional.
I hope you will be feeling better soon. Best Wishes.

I’m really glad you are here and that you recognized you are depressed. It’s hard to go to a parent with things like this because it’s scary not knowing what will happen. You probably do need medication but medication will need to be coupled with therapy. I would print out your results of your tests and give them to your parents and tell them you want help. Tell them you have been putting on a happy face in front of them because you didn’t want them to worry. Tell them your real feelings and tell them you just want some help and medication. I’m sure they will appreciate your honesty and that you felt safe enough to ask them for help. That’s what they are there for. In the event you don’t feel your parents are helping, you can call crisis hot-lines for teens (you can look those up on the internet) or you can talk to your guidance counselor at school. I’m glad you are taking this seriously! I’m sure your parents are going to find you the help you need. Just be honest with them and be straight forward about everything. That’s the best way to tell them and once you explain everything, you can only go up from there! Good luck!

Either talk to a school counselor or tell your parents that you feel really bad and you would like to see your doctor. You might have to tell your parents, but make sure you tell them about the quizzes.

I kept my feelings hidden from my family too. We ought to go into acting. I never told anybody in my family till the day after my mother died last year. She was in really poor health and I didn’t want to have her worrying about me.

Same. I’m really depressed and i want help but i’m terrified about what my parents will say when they see my scars and stuff - i couldn’t cope with the shame. i ran away to hospital before xmas after i tried killing myself i was so scared, but when my mum finally came and took me to the GP i just couldn’t say… i chickened out and pretended i was fine. i’m just telling you this to warn you, it’s sooo difficult; i’de rather tell them i was gay. you just have to be brave, and come out and say it. hopefully i will too :[

    good luck!
