Situational depression?
situional depression vs clinical depression please example?
doctor said i had clinical depression, i think i got to the root problem, and depression has began to fade within a week, could this be mistaken for situational, I’ve read that the symptoms are similar plus i was diagnosed by like a test/ quiz like an sat or something?
Hi,
It’s normal for people to have situational depression over an event, such as a death, painful anniversary, or other traumatic event (rape, car accident, etc.). The difference between situational depression and clinical depression (called major depression) is if your depression goes away within a short amount of time (I’d say less than 6 months) and was ONLY brought on with an event.
So, for instance: Susie’s mother died and she was miserable. She wouldn’t get out of bed and slept all day. She stopped calling her friends and failed out of school. Susie’s dad sent her to a therapist and within a couple months of grieving her mother’s death, Susie started getting better. Within another month, she was back to her old self.
"Susie" most likely doesn’t have a depressive disorder, but had understandable depression from her mother dying.
As long as there was no period of depression prior to the incident and the depression is steadily getting better since the incident, I’d say it’s safe to assume you’re okay!!!

Congratulations. Clinical depression is generally very severe. If it is fading that is great.
Most people have a combination of the two. With the situational, if you can solve for the situation, you’re more than half way there.

Yes I think you are right. If you get out of the depressing situation you will get better. I have always believed that I mainly had situational depression in the past.

Depression can have many causes, and, once pinpointed, and addressed, that depression can diminish, and soon disappear, hopefully never to return.
