The only thing you can do if you feel severe depression is to go to the Emergency room. If you are calm enough to be asking for help try this. Run a bath if you have a bathtub, light a candle or use bubble bath, put on some calming music, also bring a book in with you, a journal and pen. Do whatever you can to soothe and distract you. But I would really recommend going to the ER.

Depends on what you mean by severe depression. if it’s like long term depression or feeling bad about yourself for a long while, or has been getting progressively worse, than there is no immediate relief. It takes time, therapy, and treatment. I went through it for years as a teen and young man. You may need to see a psychiatrist or psychologist. if it’s SHORT term depression, just a bad day, or feeling bummed out, than there may lots of ways to cheer yourself up. Do something you enjoy doing, go out with friends, or see a girlfriend, buy something, or maybe get juiced or catch a buzz (if your into that sort of thing).

Call a friend or family member to come stay with you, RIGHT NOW. You can watch a comedy video together, or play cards, or whatever - better not to talk about how sad you are. Go walk together, even in the dark - exercise helps stabilize mood. Or put wild, fun music on and dance fun & crazy.
If you think you will self injure, grab an ice cube or ice pack and hold it until it hurts. That will distract you. If you get stuck into self injuring mode again, do it again.
Play HAPPY music, nothing sad - sad music really makes you more down.
If you are suicidal, you should have your friend or family member take you to the hospital. Find one in the yellow pages that has a behavioral health unit.
PS for long term depression, social support is probably the #1 thing that will help you. Can you get into some depression support groups thru NAMI.org or maybe thru your county social services dept? People want to "isolate" when depressed, but that makes the depression worse.

If you can try going outside in the sun (when it is up again) and walking at the park/beach/whatever.
Exercise and sunlight are always good for the mood. A healthy diet helps and LOTS of Fish Oil.
I am not sure how fast these will work, but they help.
Never be afraid to go into the hospital if you need extra care.
On the bright side I think the fact that you are looking for ways to fight the depression shows that you are coming out of the depression.
