Can Antidepressants make you gain weight?

My M.D.,P.A. had me on two antidepressants. I lost control of everything. Gained weight, couldn’t concentrate, lost my job gained weight again so now I dint take shit. but it’s only been like a week or two. I am looking into natural stuff now. No health insurance and maybe this is the best thing for me right now. I really want to lose all this weight I gained. Any advice or suggestion would really help.

Absolutely they can cause weight gain and significant weight gain at that. esp if you were on more than one. Oftentimes, the weight will start to fall off after getting off of them but you def wont see loss results right away, it will take at least 8 weeks to even get the medicine completely out of your system. I would recommend daily exercise rather than extreme diet changes. Right now your body will be super sensitive to change and it is essentially going to be trying to heal and flush itself of the antidepressants- so def sont starve yourself or end up on a weirdo diet like cabbage soup or something. Exercise, vitamins including B-12 *for energy and Vitamin C are essential. Also google some homeopathic type stuff and see what comes up. I wish much luck to you and hope you are feeling healthier soon!

Yes, anti-depressants can make you gain weight. My friend has the same problem. For now, the best thing you can do is just exercise daily, and eat healthy food.

slowly cut out refined sugar & refined carbs. Do a google search on "dangers of refined sugar" "refined sugar and depression"…you’ll be surprised the problems it can cause plus you’ll lose weight.
    More knowledge…more power to you.
Stay away from all diet soda and reg. pop soda. They can cause alot of problems too. Do a search on "diet plan for depression".
Exercise 5 xs a week 45 min. like fast pace walk, jog, swim laps, bicycling etc…

Hope it all works out for you.
