Looking for natural antidepressant options?

After a great number of unsuccessful attempts with prescription antidepressants over a 20 year span, I’m gladly no longer taking prescription medications. No more days feeling numb and zombie-like.

I still have problems with depression, however.

Does anyone have some alternative health suggestions for depression? I’ve tried St. John’s Wort to no effect. I’ve altered my diet (no red meat, greatly reduced dairy due to lactose intolerance, increased soy products) as well as starting an exercise regimen. I do however have a suppressed immune response, so I tend to get ill very easily.

Suggestions would be appreciated. As always respect the poster. Thanks for your time!

Did you miss the "I’m not taking prescriptions and am looking for natural alternatives" part of the question?

Thanks for taking the question seriously. I already meditate and practice Buddhism. Also thank you for posting the links.

Thanks, I only moved to this area four months ago, so I’ll have to see what’s available in this area.

You are not alone. Abraham Lincoln fought depression most of his adult life. He once said:

"Remember in the depth and even the agony
of despondency, that very shortly you are to feel well again."

There are several effective and natural ways to treat depression without resorting to drugs. Many drugs are no more effective than a sugar pill for people with mild depression. Have you tried cognitive therapy? Have you had your vitamin D levels checked? Depressed people usually have low levels of vitamin D in their blood. im going through what youre going through. ironically i just got back from a psychiatrist for some suggestions. i went off of medications a lot.
it sucks. the numbness and zombie-likeness is a pain.
there are a lot of different oranic supplements that could help your depression. but if you have the whole lack of seretonin in your brain i think you have to take regular medication to help it (not sure), but these organic ones should make you feel better.
sleep is always a big one too. and your enviornment obviously.

im sorry i cant find the link to this one site. ill have my friend send it to me again though.
    maybe Ginko Biloba might help?
