Questions for people who have taken Effexor XR or other?
Been on since Jan 13/07, as of today have gained 13 pounds (have read about the weight gain problem), considering quitting, and using a natural antidepressant, exercise. Anyone quit this med abruptly and have side effects or is it best to taper off? Also, any med that does not cause weight gain? Thanks.
Thanks to those who answered, all good advice and I will follow it.
You will continue to gain weight if you continue taking the drug.
I was on it for a year. I decided nothing was so bad that I could not handle it on my own. I tapered off under the direction of mt physician. The withdrawal is far worse than anything you ever experienced prior to taking the drug.
DO NOT stop it abruptly.
Do yourself a favor and forget about taking medication’s to mask a problem or to make you feel good. Make yourself feel good!
Most SSRI’s cause weight gain. No way around it.
It is great that you are going to take a more natural route to you’re health. I was glad I did and I have to admit I feel better now than I ever did before ever taking the drugs.
Anti-depressants are prescribes like candy.
One thing I have done since being off of Effexor is I started taking a B-Complex Vitamin. It was not a drastic change but I noticed over time I felt a lot better.
It also helps to know what is causing you to feel depressed. If you can fix it, fix it. If you can’t, move on with you’re life and don’t dwell on the bad. If you keep the bad in you will suffer.
Good luck to you.

My partner experienced severe withdrawal symptoms upon quitting Effexor…most notably a sensation of "electric shocks," but also general malaise over a period of >a week. Please, taper off of it slowly, and consider getting a doctor’s help transitioning off it with the help of another medication.
Good luck with whatever treatment strategies you pursue next.

I TAKE THE MEDICATION AND I MYSELF HAVE NOT GAIN WEIGHT FROM IT, I BELIEVE YOU ARE HAVING A SIDE AFFECT FROM IT. DID YOU TALK TO YOUR DR ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE GOING THROUGH SINCE YOU STARTED THE MEDICATION? IF YOU WANT TO STOP TAKING IT YOU SHOULD DO IT SLOWLY SO YOUR BODY WILL GET USE TO NOT HAVING IT ALSO YOU NEED TO WATCH YOU DEPRESSION BECAUSE IT CAN GET WORSE. SO I THINK YOU SHOULD TALK TO YOUR DR FOR YOUR SAFETY AND HEALTH WISE. GOD BLESS
